Leading Chemical producer LignoTech injects funds to support UKZN Students for 2017

LignoTech South Africa, a joint venture owned by Borregaard of Norway and Sappi of South Africa, has demonstrated a high level of social responsibility with a generous R 1, 350 000 donation towards nurturing the next generation of specialists in the fields of chemical engineering, chemistry and organic chemistry and accountancy at the UKZN.

The fund will be administrated by the UKZN student funding centre and will include students from the missing middle. Commencing in the 2017 academic year UKZN’S student funding centre will award at least 18 returning students’ bursaries in the designated fields.

The UKZN foundations executive director, Prof Anesh Singh noted, “after a trying year with regards student funding it is encouraging to receive support from LignoTech and other donors who acknowledge that the university alone cannot fund the missing middle. I hereby thank LignoTech for its contribution to this noble cause of giving the gift of knowledge.”
